Inches and pounds and the like are considered the lameman's version. It's an easier concept for most americans. In schools and science, we actually do use metrics.

Yes, we use inches, pounds and such.

In more recent years, it's become more common for those measures to be taught alongside the metric system, though. In casual conversation and the like I usually hear the American measures, but in business it's common to use metric- for example, in the hospital all our records are written in both measures.

I still gotta work in inches cause of all the old unhappy english people around when metric is so much better.
Like paper. All our paper formats here are in inch. 8,5x11, 8x10, 5x7.
If I talk in centimeters, everyone bulltrips!

Also, I never learned inches in school. It was REALLY awkward when I started working.

Really, we learn mostly metric for 80% of things but in math we use both, and have to do all our the conversions, in shop classes we also hop back and forth for everything.

In converting between them is. My main problem is converting fractions of an inch into decimals and stuff. In auto though you have to constantly switch between the imperial and metric sets of tools to get the perfect grip otherwise risk damaging a bolt or something.

I agree. Everything at school is metric (a.k.a. international system).
But in real life, I have a 17 inch laptop, my brother is 6 foot 1, I weigh 145 pounds and I heat my oven at 350 fahrenheit.

As far as I'm aware, Metric is only used in science-related work areas and possibly business, like Kloud said.

Personally, I believe whoever decided to keep us using this insane system should be burned at the stake, as I blame them for forcing me to memorize all of this horrifying conversions >.<

Hey, at least our temperature guy made more sense than Celcius. Don't believe me? Look it up. The man wanted the freezing point of water to be 100 and the boiling point to be 0

Well, Celsius wanted 0 to be boiling because of something involving atmospheric pressure at sea level. Literally within a year after his death, a Swedish dude reversed it because it made more sense.
