I heard that game was pretty good. It's a puzzle game right?
I could be completely wrong lol
Yes but also no.
Catherine is devided into two major points to it's gameplay.
During Vincent's Waking Hours, you're spending time at the bar where your interactions with your fellow patrons has an effect on the Law and Chaos meter, which has a huge effect on the story.
When Vincent goes to sleep, you enter Nightmare mode where you desperately climb a tower of blocks with weird physics to avoid dying if you fall (or are killed by the bosses at the end of every section of the climb.
But the story takes up the last third of the game as you experinece the complications going on in the life of Vincent Brooks. See, Vince is a nice enough guy who's been dating his stable, but suffocating girlfriend Katherine for about five years now, but isn't psychologically ready for tying the knot or having a family. Well, one day after all his bar buddies leave, he runs into Catherine (thank god for subtitles) a young, sexy woman who's all over him, and due to her advances and the fact that he's drunk as a skunk at the time, he winds up blacking out and, after his nightmare that night, wakes up to find her in his bed.
Your Law and Order bar has a huge effect on the story, mainly in the form of changing Vincent's inner mono logs (which there are a lot of) as well as having an effect on your ending. It's a short game (even though I suck at the puzzles, i'm about to beat it in less than 12 hours) but since the game has 8 different endings, it has tons or replay value. There's also mini sub plots where by cheering up your fellow bar patrons, you can save their lives by making them realize they have reason to try and survive the nightmares which they are also having. Trust me. Try and pull as many of these off as possible, both for the achievement and because, if you don't, the bar gets incredibly empty by the end of the game and that's just... sad.
There's a lot of quasi religious symbolism in this game, which might make someone uncomfortable, but only if you actually pay enough attention. The bosses are all absolutely, heart palpitatingly terrifying, and watching Vincent juggle Katherine and Catherine can make you a bit uncomfortable, but trust me when I say, this game is worth the money if only for the entertainment and intrigue.
EDIT: Also, alcohol trivia. Lots of alcohol trivia. A lot of which was fun to learn about. Like the Cuba Libre or the Pousse-Cafe cocktails. I definitely wanna try the second of those in three months.
