Well, the areas are indeed based on New York, and also you don't fight any 1-4gen Pokemon till you finish the entire game.

Yeah it's based on New York and it's very far away from the other regions, having completely different Pokémon until you win.
The starters are Tepig the Fire Pig, Snivy the Smug Grass and Oshawott the Ugly Water
Professor Juniper is the prof, your rivals are Cheren, Bianca and N
The villains are Team Plasma who want to liberate Pokémon from their trainers

Coolest thing is when you get the c-gear you can go to this place called The Entralink where you can connect to someone else's world. Not over wifi though

like a pokenav. Its cool because of you are on at the same time as a friend over wifi you can have a video chat. There is also a new thing for the Global Trade Station. Its called Negotiations. You connect to another person over wifi and every pokemon in your boxes and their boxes is up for trade. You put three at a time and they put a smiley face if they like, frown face if they don't, and heart for love it.
