Pokémon Game Announcement Incoming?

TV Tokyo has posted the summary for the episode of Pokémon Smash, a variety show that covers all aspects of the franchise, due to air next week on Sunday 18th of September. In this summary, it mentions that Pokémon Game Creator, Junichi Masuda is set to appear on the show with a massive shock announcement. While it is possible that the announcement could be unrelated to a new game such as the reveal of Keldeo or the other new Pokémon, his announcements in the past similar to this have ended up being new games. This follows on from Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara hinting that there are more surprises coming this year. If it is a game announcement, it's possible that the reveal of this game will be in CoroCoro, which is due any day now and/or in Nintendo's special 3DS conference in Japan on Tuesday morning. We'll bring more on this, including confirmation on the announcement as and when it comes.

In light of Mewtwo being featured in BW3 Psycho Drive and Hail Blizzard, which will be released on Friday, yesterday's episode of Pokemon Smash was dedicated to Mewtwo and reviewed many of its TCG, video game, and anime appearances to date. But to really celebrate Mewtwo, the show announced that it will play Mewtwo Returns next week and that Junichi Masuda will come on the show to reveal details of a Black and White Mewtwo distribution! We'll post whatever distribution details he reveals when the show airs (if CoroCoro's release next week doesn't spoil it first), so be sure to check back!

It's not surprising Mewtwo will be given out soon considering the newest generation of players probably do not own HeartGold and SoulSilver and may not even know much about Mewtwo with the whole "fifth generation reset." Many of the 10 year olds today weren't even born when Mewtwo was first cloned from Mew! So, the show is seemingly "updating" newer players by showing them the history of everyone's favorite first generation Legendary.

Note: Many sites are reporting that Junichi Masuda is revealing a new Pokemon game next week, but there is no factual basis for this. The show has only said he is going to be discussing the "latest game information," referring to Mewtwo's distribution. The misunderstanding came from sites seeing the "latest game information" quote on Pokemon Smash's episode summary before yesterday's episode aired and assuming it was about a new game. But then the episode aired and it became obvious the news would really be about Mewtwo.

Junichi Masuda has just announced the Mewtwo distribution on Pokemon Smash. He revealed that Mewtwo will be holding a King's Rock (increases opponent's flinching) and will know the attacks Psystrike, Shadow Ball, Aura Sphere, and a fourth attack which will be revealed next week. Its OT is "PokeSuma" (Pokemon Smash). As reported before, it is at Level 70, inside a Cherish Ball, and has its typical Pressure ability. The distribution will take place over Wi-Fi from September 26th to October 31st for Japanese copies of Black and White.

Pokémon Smash, the variety show that airs weekly in Japan, has just given the final details of the upcoming Mewtwo event that is to be given over WiFi. In addition to its previously announced moves of Psystrike, Shadow Ball and Aura Sphere, it also has the special move; Electro Ball, a move Mewtwo doesn't normally know. This Mewtwo will be distributed from September 26th 2011 to October 31st 2011. The Event Database has been updated with these new details of this event.

So the fourth move is Electro Ball. I'm slightly questioning why they gave it such a move. I mean they have so many more moves, but this one isn't as thrilling as I hoped in a new move. But I guess it's better than some outrageous and probably over powered move, but why something not necessary at all for Mewtwo that's what I'm poking at...

Something like Nasty Plot would have been truly fearsome, Electro Ball is negligible when it has more reliable Thunder, especially in the rain. Most pokemon in Ubers aren't that slow to abuse with, or Electric-weak since most are dragons, so it's essentially useless competitively.

also remember that they dont actually care about making it competitive, it didnt cross their minds when adding electroball to it.  It's there for novelty reasons, probably cos it's pikachu related or something like that.

Yeah, for the most part, Nintendo doesn't seem to care too much about distributing event Pokemon that are competitive.

Most of the time, it's either an anniversary of some sort, or a movie coming out...
